If you have visited the Lower Darwen Recreation ground in the last few weeks you will have noticed a few developments around the Branch Road field. These are part of a longer term plan to regenerate that area for multisport and community use.
The large ditch which has recently appeared will divert water running from the upper field and prevent the soaking of the subsoil below the Branch Road surface. The ditch has been there for many years but needed clearing.
In addition to helping with drainage issues. The ditch will promote various forms of wildlife (more later).
We have also demolished and removed the dangerous building from the site and at the same time cleared and levelled an area that will serve as a car park for 60 cars. Once we have raised enough funds for 200 tons of stone and a security gate, this car park will be permanently accessible to the general public.
